Charles Yang

Grammy Award-winning violinist Charles Yang is also a compelling vocalist, crossover artist, improviser, composer and songwriter. He is the recipient of the 2018 Leonard Bernstein Award and has been described by the Boston Globe as a musician who "plays classical violin with the charisma of a rock star.” He has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Musikverein in Vienna, Royal Danish Theatre, Konzerthaus Berlin, The Forbidden City in Beijing and at the YouTube Music Awards. In addition to his solo performances, he is a member of Time for Three, a string trio that excels in performing an eclectic mix of Americana, modern pop and classical music. Time for Three’s album, “Letters for the Future” with Xian Zhang and The Philadelphia Orchestra featuring concertos written by Kevin Puts and Jennifer Higdon, won the 2023 GRAMMY award for “Best Classical Instrumental Solo.” Charles Yang's other artistic pursuits include co-writing the score to Robin Wright's 2021 film Land. He has also collaborated with Joshua Bell, Steve Miller, Savion Glover, Michael Thurber, Misty Copeland and CDZA on a range of creative projects. A graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, Charles Yang grew up in Texas where he began his violin studies with his mother Sha Zhu. His mentors include Kurt Sassmannshaus, Paul Kantor, Brian Lewis and Glenn Dicterow. He performs on the 1852 “ex-Soil” J.B. Vuillaume.
