Debra Jones

Born in the UK, Debra Jones studied recorder and cello with a special interest in early music performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She moved to Hong Kong in 2002 to take up the position of Head of Music at South Island School, intending to stay for a couple years. Twenty-two years later she is still in Hong Kong and is currently the Director of Music (Senior School) at Kellett, The British International School in Hong Kong since 2021. In 2019 she was awarded the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award. She is passionate about music education and in conducting instrumental ensembles and choirs to provide opportunities for talented young musicians to perform together at a high level. For several years she was the co-chairman of the International Schools Choral Music Society where she organized large-scale festivals for 400+ choral and orchestral students to perform professional-level repertoire in major concert venues across Asia. In 2017 she was the music coordinator for the ESF 50th Anniversary Concert. In 2019 she performed the recorder solos alongside Colin Touchin and City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong in Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.
