Harry Chiu was born in Hong Kong and studied the horn from the age of seven with Joe Kirtley. At the age of ten he was invited to perform as a soloist at the 40th International Horn Symposium in Denver, USA. He has won many awards including winner of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, the Tom Lee Music Prize and The Parsons Music Scholarship for Wind, Brass and Percussion at the Hong Kong Schools Music And Speech Association Competitions. Harry Chiu has given performances at the Verbier Festival and as a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. He has also performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra and Opera Hong Kong. For two years running he won The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Concerto Competitions performing the Glière and Strauss Horn Concertos with the Academy Symphony Orchestra. Harry Chiu was a featured artist at the 48th International Horn Symposium and was selected as a participant in the prestigious 65th ARD International Music Competition in Munich. He holds two Master of Music degrees from The Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and The Juilliard School of Music where he was a recipient of the Juilliard Kovner Fellowship.
