Sharon Andrea Choa

Sharon Andrea Choa was born in Hong Kong and excelled in the violin at an early age. At just 16, she ventured into conducting. As a young conductor, she received coaching from many renowned conductors including Lawrence Leonard, Diego Masson, Georg Tintner, Janos Fürst, Jorma Panula, Jiří Bĕlohlávek and Sir Colin Davis. She has guest conducted several professional orchestras in Germany, Russia and the Czech Republic and in 2001 founded the Chamber Orchestra Anglia (COA) in the UK. In Hong Kong she has appeared as a guest conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK) and the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble. She is also the founding Music Director of The Greater Bay Area Youth Orchestra (GBAYO). In 2024 she made a recording of works by Dvorak and Saint-Saens with the London Symphony Orchestra for the Warner Music label. Her repertoire has recently expanded to Chinese works and in 2024 she conducted a programme of guzheng concertos with CCOHK and guest artists from Hong Kong and Beijing.
