Barry Douglas has played worldwide after winning the Gold Medal at the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in 1986 and the Bronze Medal at the Van Cliburn Competition in 1985. His piano teachers were Felicitas LeWinter, a pupil of Emil von Sauer (who was a pupil of Liszt), Maria Curcio (a pupil of Arthur Schnabel) and the Russian pianist Yevgeny Malinin. He is currently a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music in London.
