George Ellis has performed as a guest conductor with all of Australia's major professional orchestras and with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur.  He is currently the Chief Conductor of The Australian Session Orchestra. In 2000 he conducted the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games. At the helm of his George Ellis Orchestra, he has led concerts at the Sydney Opera House, the Victorian Arts Centre, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Adelaide Festival Centre and the Perth Concert Hall. For national television in Australia, he has conducted at the ARIA Awards and in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. He has toured internationally in Europe, the USA and Asia and has presented concerts with international icons including Lou Reed and Hans Zimmer. His opera and music theatre credits include La Traviata for Opera Australia (assistant to Simone Young),  a national touring production of Man of La Mancha starring Anthony Warlow and Caroline O’Connor, and The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddliepie for Belvoir Street Theatre. For ten years, George Ellis was the musical director of the Babies Proms concerts at the Sydney Opera House where he presented many concerts for young audiences at the City Recital Hall, Angel Place, including Peter and the Wolf with Murray Cook, The Conductor and The Clown with George Washingmachine and The Beatles Orchestrated for Kids. His composition and film work includes music for the Bruce Beresford films Ladies in Black and An Improbable Collection, commissioned works for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and for the Lights of Christmas Festival for the City of Sydney. He has also appeared on screen for the film Mao’s Last Dancer conducting Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.
